Argentina Romp to 4-1 Victory over Guatemala in Copa América Tune-Up
Messi and Martinez Star as Albiceleste Begin Title Defense Preparations
In their final friendly before the Copa América, Argentina got off to a slow start but eventually found their rhythm to defeat Guatemala 4-1. Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez each scored twice for the Albiceleste in an impressive performance.
Messi's first goal came in the 30th minute, a clinical finish from inside the box. He doubled his tally in the 40th minute with a stunning free-kick. Martinez made it 3-0 just before half-time with a deflected shot, and he added his second in the 55th minute to put the game out of reach.
Guatemala managed a consolation goal in the 80th minute, but it was too little, too late. Argentina will open their Copa América title defense on June 14 against Colombia.
