Say Goodbye to Acrylics: A Step-by-Step Guide to Safe Removal
Prepare Your Nails
Before you begin the removal process, gather the necessary tools: acetone nail polish remover, a fine-grade buffer or nail file, nail clippers, and cotton balls.
Step 1: File and Buff
File the topcoat and nail polish off your nails using a fine-grade buffer or nail file. This will weaken the bond between the acrylic and your natural nails.
Step 2: Clip Down the Acrylic
Use nail clippers to trim down the acrylic nails as much as possible. This will reduce the amount of acetone exposure and make the removal process easier.
Soaking and Dissolving
Step 3: Soak in Acetone
Saturate cotton balls with acetone nail polish remover and place them on the surface of each acrylic nail. Wrap each nail in aluminum foil to hold the cotton balls in place.
Allow the acetone to dissolve the acrylic for 15-20 minutes. Check occasionally to see if the acrylic has softened.
Step 4: Remove Remaining Acrylic
Once the acrylic has dissolved, gently push or scrape away the remaining pieces using an orange stick or a metal cuticle pusher.
Finishing Up
Step 5: Clean and Moisturize
Once all the acrylic has been removed, wash your hands and apply cuticle oil or lotion to moisturize your natural nails.
