Rishi Sunak: A Rising Star in British Politics

From Finance to the Prime Ministership

Rishi Sunak, born on May 12, 1980, is a British politician who has served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since 2022. His remarkable rise to the top of British politics is a testament to his ambition, intellect, and political acumen.

From Southampton to Number 10

Born in Southampton, England, Sunak studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford University. After graduating, he worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and later founded his own investment firm. In 2015, he entered politics and was elected to Parliament as the Conservative MP for Richmond.

Sunak quickly rose through the ranks of the Conservative Party, holding various ministerial positions before being appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2020. His handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, including his furlough scheme, was widely praised.

Leader of the Conservative Party

Following the resignation of Boris Johnson, Sunak emerged as one of the frontrunners to become the next Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister. In a chaotic three-day race, he prevailed, securing a majority of the votes.

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

At 42, Sunak became the UK's youngest Prime Minister in over 200 years. He is also the first person of Indian descent to hold the position. Sunak faces a number of challenges, including the ongoing economic crisis, the war in Ukraine, and the UK's relationship with the European Union.
