Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has died in a helicopter crash at age 63, Iranian news outlets have reported.
The helicopter carrying Raisi and several other officials crashed in the southern province of Kerman on Wednesday morning, according to Iranian state television.
Raisi was on his way to visit flood-stricken areas in the province when the helicopter went down, Iranian state media reported.
There were conflicting reports about Raisi's condition after the crash. Some Iranian news outlets reported that he had died, while others said he was in critical condition.
Iranian state television is now reporting that Raisi has died.
Raisi was a hard-line protégé of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was elected president in June 2021.
Raisi's death is a major blow to Iran's hard-line leadership.
