Celtics Outlast Pacers in Game 1 of East Finals
Tatum Scores 36, Brown Hits Clutch 3-Pointer
With the season series tied at 2-2, the Boston Celtics outlasted the Indiana Pacers from TD Garden and won the game by a score of 133-128 in overtime.
Jayson Tatum scored 36 points, including 10 in overtime, after Jaylen Brown's tying 3-pointer with 61 seconds remaining.
The Celtics led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but the Pacers battled back to tie the game in the final minute of regulation. Indiana had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Tyrese Haliburton's 3-point attempt rimmed out.
In overtime, the Celtics took control of the game and never trailed. Tatum scored the first five points of overtime, and the Pacers never got closer than three points.
Brown finished with 25 points, while Marcus Smart added 19 points and 11 assists. Haliburton led the Pacers with 27 points, while Myles Turner added 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Celtics will host the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Tuesday night.
What a shot by Jaylen Brown!
With the score tied at 128-128 and just seconds remaining in overtime, Jaylen Brown pulled up from 30 feet and drained a game-winning 3-pointer.
It was a remarkable shot by Brown, who has struggled with his shooting throughout the playoffs. But when it mattered most, he came up with a huge play to give the Celtics a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Pacers will need to find a way to slow down Brown in Game 2 if they want to tie the series. But if Brown continues to play like this, the Celtics will be tough to beat.
